Big City Girl

Dress & Shoes: Target, Necklace: Forever21

haha...NOT

I don't think I'll ever get used to the hussle and bussle of living in LA. I started my new internship with Cailyn Cosmetics (YAY!) today, but my commute home was close to an hour and a half! Unacceptable in my book! Especially because I HATE driving. I guess I'm just going to have to suck it up for the time being. At least it's a paid internship, right? Right.

Living out here in LA has a been a little rough for me, but things might be looking up. Like I mentioned above, I started a new internship! It's a Social Media internship and the Brand Marketing Manager mentioned that I might move up in a month or so to a full time position as a Social Media Brand Ambassador. I've learned to not get my hopes up about these things since I've had such poor luck in the past, but I'm still excited! I guess we shall just have to see. Today my job pretty much consisted of replying to comments, sharing links on Facebook, and spending time on Pinterest. You know, pretty hard work.

Speaking of work, I actually have a meeting tomorrow for a Radiochemist position. What is that you might ask? Well, basically I'd be making radiopharmaceuticals. What are those you might ask? You're on your own for this one. Go Google it. But now I'm in a predicament. What if I am offered this position? I am more than qualified for it since I majored in Biology (emphasis in Medical Imaging and minor in Applied Physics), but is it for me? I'm not going to lie. It does sound pretty cool and important-you know, like a big girl job. Not to mention the pay will probably be great. I'm just afraid of making a HUGE mistake. I wish there was a way to predict the future so I could see if I was making the right choices. But no, I am not blessed with this fortune telling ability. Guess I'll have to figure it out the hard way, just like everyone else. It does make life a little more exciting not knowing what is coming, though. We'll just have to see what life has in store for me.

Stay tuned!

Horsin' Around

I never thought we could do something like horseback riding in LA, but in fact, there is a whole community in Burbank that values small town living and saddling up. So yesterday, we decided to get out of the house and give it a try. We found a very affordable horse rental called Griffith Park Horse Rentals, and we decided on a two hour trail ride at $25/hr. It was such fun ride through Griffith Park, with beautiful views of Glendale and Burbank. Of course we had a guide, but he trailed behind us in order to give us privacy. We are not very experienced riders, (I've only ridden a handful of times and him once before) but we got our horses, Dandy and Starsky, to trot quite a bit. I'm very excited that we discovered this part of town and will definitely be coming back for another ride. I guess I'm just a country girl at heart.

here's a little update

so, it's been a while since i've posted anything. i've just been going through a whirlwind of stuff. for example, MY BEST FRIEND MOVED TO AMERICAN SAMOA.

yep. consequently, there's been a lot of this:

and this:

oh, and the cherry on top: i moved to LA. of course it's exciting, but i feel alone in this big ol' city. my best friend is across the country, my family isn't over in the next town anymore, and adam has been away for work. it's just hard adjusting to a new city/life when you're alone most of the time.

i know...PATHETIC.

so naturally i have andy grammer's "keep your head up" on constant repeat in my head. it's my new anthem.

anyways, enough with the crying!

i started my new internship! right now i'm currently working on some social media posts for a clothing line as well as making a list of celebrities who would potentially wear this line so we can contact their publicists.

snapshot from my first day

the showroom is located in downtown LA, so that's kind of drag. but hey, this line of work is more up my alley than a pharmaceutical company, so it'll be worth it (i hope). i'll be telecommuting for now until i get back from my vacation to myrtle beach.

oh yeah! i'm going to myrtle beach! we actually leave on thursday, which happens to also be my 24th birthday (woo! drinks on the plane for me!)! i finally get to meet adam's family AND i get to spend a week or so in beach house. pretty exciting and nerve wracking all at the same time!

i guess things aren't too bad for me right now. i just miss my best friend and family.

so, LA, please be kind to me! k?

ashley

PS
i promise to post more! more ootd and such! :)

passions and aspirations

dress: charming charlie's, sandals: reflection, jewelry: flea markets, forever21, fossil, francesca's

i can't exactly pin point the moment in my life where i finally discovered my passion for social media and fashion. i've always loved writing, but never thought to pursue it as a career choice. i graduated college with a degree in biology with an emphasis in medical imaging and minor in applied physics, but as time progressed, i realized i had no real passion for it. i started my blog in 2011 as a way to document my life experiences and my interests. i never knew how much of an impact it would have on my life and how it would change my aspirations. i'd love to write social media for a fashion website or magazine and eventually become an editor. people often have the impression that i am only moving to LA because adam got into dental school, but it is also so i can follow my dreams. i know moving to LA will offer more opportunities. hopefully this will assist me in my journey to my new career.

sunday funday at the santa moinca pier

yesterday, the boy and i took a trip down to the santa monica pier for a day out. we walked around, played some games, and had dinner at bubba gump shrimp co. for months we've been wanting to try out the corona rita and we finally went for it! and OH MY GOODNESS was it delicious. this was my cheat day (i've been trying to eat healthy), thank goodness. i just had to go all out and this included the coconut shrimp. i cannot tell you how amazing fried food tastes after not eating any of it for 6 days. it was so lovely going out for the day together (we normally just stick around the house watching movies all day). with UCLA only 8 miles away, it's crazy to think that santa monica will soon enough be our new hometown.

updates

dress:target, headband:claire's, sandals: reflection, necklace: ventura harbor, bangles: kate spade, ring: brandy melville, sunglasses: aerie

updates (in no particular order):

  • i've been rocking a lot of headbands lately. my forehead feels naked ever since i grew out my bangs. just call me hippie from now on.
  • i pretty much wear nothing but dresses (and workout clothes) on my days off from work. it's springtime; i'm embracing the weather.
  • i have implemented a much needed lifestyle change. this means exercising and eating healthy. don't worry, i'll still have my cheat days.
  • our one year anniversary is in exactly one week. ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY! i can't believe it. where did the time even go? ah.
  • more tattoos are in the near future. i plan on getting either my last name is kanji or my family crest. i'm pretty excited. oh, and don't forget the infinity symbol that i've been obsessed with for the past year.
  • getting closer to family always feels great. my cousin and i practically grew up together, but we've been distant for years. it's good to have her back.

that's all for now :)
